Recently I did a cosmetic renovation on a bathroom. It took about a week and it was done on a low budget.
The bathroom was from the 1960’s and it had excellent bones. The only major changes were wall colour (formerly purple) and lighting.
The start of the Reno involved taking down the floral valance. I would then tape off what I did not want to paint and start priming. I chose to prime the walls first as the colour of paint is Feather White and I did not want any purple to come through.
Once the painting was complete I took the old hardware off the cabinets, washed them and spray painted them a chrome finish. This would tie in the towel rods, shower curtain rod and new lighting.
The bathtub has a really old folding shower screen on it that is not really attractive. Because it is cut into the original 3D tiles taking it down would leave a mark. Instead we chose to hide it behind a beautiful shower curtain purchased from Home Sense. I also hung a curved shower curtain rod which gives you the feeling of more space in the shower.
The lighting was selected on Wayfair.ca and was delivered in only a couple days. We had an electrician in to do updates on electrical work through out the house so we took advantage and asked him if that could be done at the same time – and it was!
What was an outdated 1960’s bathroom is now light, airy and fresh. Finishing touches included a piece of art over the toilet, a cute seagull on the wall, a light house from our trip to PEI, new soap and tooth brush dishes and some towel and house coat hooks. The approximate cost to completely redo this tired bathroom was around $300. We reused paint and primer and the decorations were all already in the house. The majority of the cost went to the beautiful updated lighting.
A low cost high impact cosmetic Reno.
🙂
Perfect just what I was looking for! .
